Liquid Oxygen and Oxygen Gas (O2)

What is oxygen?

PurityPlus offers liquid oxygen and compressed oxygen gas at a variety of concentrations and purities. Oxygen (O2) is a colorless, tasteless, highly-oxidizing gas.The initial commercial utilizations of oxygen began in the nineteenth century due to the increase in technological improvements. Many of these innovations were associated with discovering a cost-friendly method of mechanical refrigeration, which led to the eventual development of a method to liquefy air. The development of air liquefaction nearly immediately led to the distillation of air into its major constituents: nitrogen, oxygen, and argon. Due to the vast differences among the condensing and boiling points of these gases, very high purities of each gas proved quite simple to acquire.

Uses for oxygen gas and liquid oxygen

Oxygen began to be utilized in the production of steel as well, and because of the newfound realization of the vast potential benefits offered by steel production, the availability of low-cost, high-purity oxygen spurred the initiation of several previously-proposed applications that had failed to commercialize because of their high costs. These new applications included oxy-acetylene welding and cutting, float glass manufacturing, and for breathing and respiratory therapy as well. Additional present-day applications of oxygen include water purification and paper production.

In the specialty gas industry, oxygen is most significantly used in environmental monitoring and semiconductor manufacturing. PurityPlus Hydrocarbon-Free and Ultra High Purity Oxygen are used in the creation of Zero and Ultra Zero Air for use in baseline studies for atmospheric and environmental monitoring. They are also used as a combustion support gas in conjunction with Ultra-High Purity Hydrogen in flame ionization and flame photometric detectors used in gas chromatography. Ultra-High Purity and research Grade Oxygen can likewise be utilized in calibration mixtures for environmental emission monitoring, safety monitors, and industrial hygiene. Ultra-High Purity Oxygen is also used in large quantities in the electronics industry for laser etching of silicon substrates.
